2018 wasn’t exactly a revolutionary year when it came to new iPhone models. However, the cheapest model in the lineup, the XR, did please many critics with its huge battery life, which can easily last more than a full day unless you’re chugging away on resource-heavy augmented reality apps or constantly refreshing a website to try and score a limited edition pair of sneakers.
But there’s no such thing as enough battery life. We want to go back to the days of feature phones when you had to charge your device about as often as you got a haircut. Battery cases can help, and now, Apple has released its own power-packed cases for the iPhone XS, XS Max, and XR. The $129 cases add a bulge to the back of your device, and in classic Apple style, the company hasn’t released exactly how much extra juice the $129 cases actually hold.
What we do now, however, is that the Apple cases are compatible with Qi wireless charging tech, s you can slap them on a power pad and juice up that way. It also supports accessories with Lightning connectors, like the headphones that come with your iPhone (if you’re still using those for some reason).
While it’s good to see Apple getting back into he first-party battery case game—there was no official battery case for the original iPhone X—it’s not the first shop in town to offer this kind of product. In fact, Mophie just announced its own Juice Pack charging cases—which use wireless charging to power your phone instead of plugging into the Lightning port—back at CES last week.
If you’re looking for a battery case, here are a few other options to check out before you make the drive over to the Apple store and battle your way past those kids smearing hot pretzel grease all over the iPads and the teenagers taking moderately obscene selfies with all the iPhones.
6,200mAh iPhone Xs Max battery case
For an iPhone Xs Max, this Yacikos battery case gives you an extra 6,200mAh—or 15 hours—of extra battery life. It’s $100 cheaper than Apple battery case, so absolutely worth a try. $23.
6000mAh iPhone X/Xs battery case
For iPhone X or Xs users, this case from Newdery is slim, has battery indicator LEDs on the bottom, and packs an extra 6000mAh battery. That’s about 42 hours of talking time or 26 hours of web browsing. The case also has a built-in magnetic so you can easily attach it to a car mount. If anything goes wrong, Newdery offers a 12-month warranty. $27.
5000mAh iPhone Xr battery case
iPhone Xr users don’t fear. There are battery cases for you as well. This 5000mAh case from Lonlif gives up to 30 hours extra hours of phone time, features “sync-through” technology so you can charge your phone and sync your date without having to take off the case, and is only .72-inches wide.
