Most of what you say is at least arguably correct. One note though- global warming is real, whether you want to admit it or not, and it is a problem. Not solving the problem due to excessive cost, as you suggest, chefboiaarni, might be better for now, but when the oil wells run dry, we won't be ready. If we start now, and i guess this is what i was trying to say before, we are more likely to be ready when we are simply out of oil. Also, lowering CO2 emissions lends itself to sending less money to the middle east, namely organizations that mean us harm...THE GREATEST TRANSFER OF WEALTH IN RECORDED HUMAN HISTORY! You voted for McCain? ( You don't need to answer this of course)

kcondon- thanks for the acronym--that might help it go over better with the government. Though it's a great goal, I do not think that carbon emissions will be 80% below 1990's figures by 2050. It will take an extraordinary amount of funding that, even if supplied in full, could not get the job done in four decades. This is especially true considering that we haven't even begun implementing anything on a huge scale yet. Furthermore, I believe it is important that the United States take the lead on this issue. Nations who see us and think of a carbon spewing nation will see our emissions plummet, and then feel almost embarassed that they have greater emissions than even the US. Nation after nation should follow suit, with enough money and enough incentive. The change would create jobs across the world economy and lower the prices (increasing the profit margin) of consumer goods, eventually bringing products to places that could never before get them. We would, of course, also have an Earth to enjoy for ages to come in the state that it's meant to be.
